We're Going On A Bear Hunt

Dear Parents,

To celebrate the end of our first term and 25 years of the ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ book, the children are invited to join us for a Teddy Bears Picnic in the park on Wednesday 23rd July. The children are asked to bring their bears along and dress suitably for the weather on that day. There will be activities going on in nursery on the build up to the event including sandwich making, making gingerbread bears, bread dough bears, craft activities and sensory experiences in grass, water, mud, leaves and twigs to represent the journey from the book. The children will also take part in hunting for their bears during their park visit. If you have a chance to borrow this book from the library before the event then please do so and share this treasured story with your family, promoting good listening and attention skills and an enjoyment of stories.

Smile 4 Life @ St Marys

St Marys @ The Park are now working towards our 1st tooth - Encourage Healthy Eating and Drinking. We will be displaying information for parents on the window in the cloak room, we encourage parents to view the information regularly to get the best advice on healthy choices for children's well being.

From the age of 12 months children should be encouraged to drink from an open cup. Drinks in between meals should consist of water or milk and juice should only be offered with a meal to provide your child with the best chance of having good healthy teeth. Lidded cups should be free flow and not the any way up valve cups. Cups where children have to suck liquid through them can have a negative effect on their speech and cause language delays. For further information please see our Smile 4 Life board in the cloak room or speak to Roxy

Smile 4 Life

St Marys @ The Park is now working towards our Smile 4 Life accreditation. Our sister sites at St Marys College and Wensley Fold Children's Centre have both received the accreditation and we believe it is vital work for the care of young children's teeth. 63% of 5 year old children in Blackburn With Darwen have already experienced tooth decay. This is a staggering amount and at St Marys @ The Park we are committed to working with Parents and Children to try and better educate everyone about the risks of tooth decay and good healthy diets. Roxy has been nominated as the Oral Health Champion for St Marys and you can discuss any issues you have about your child's snacking habits or teeth issues. We will be including lots of fun activities during sessions which promote Smile 4 Life and look forward to sharing our information with you.
