Wellbeing Wednesday May

This Wellbeing Wednesday we have discussed being Sun Smart with the children in line with our Sun Smart policy. The policy is displayed on the front door, the self registration board and in the cloak room. During the next few months if the weather is nice we would like children to wear their sun hats for nursery and have sun cream applied before they attend nursery for sun protection. Extra water is provided during warmer weather and shade under the canopy provides a cool down area for children.

Millie's Mark

We are proud to announce that St Mary's Nurseries now hold the Millie's Mark.

What is Millie's Mark?

As a parent, placing your child in a nursery that is endorsed with Millie’s Mark provides reassurance that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.
It acknowledges that children’s safety is at the forefront of the nursery’s mind when they care for your child.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines, which childcare settings in England are required to follow, currently state that just one person with a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present or on outings. (DfE 2017, page 22)
Millie's Mark will be awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond these minimum requirements by having 100% of staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learned during the course is kept alive and in the forefront of practitioners’ minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.

Millie’s legacy

Millie’s Mark is named after Millie Thompson, who died after choking on food at nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old.

Challenging our Boys

We have a few boys who really love to climb but now they are getting older and more skillful at it they need more opportunities. So off we went to find climbing adventures in the park and found the perfect spot for the children to climb to their hearts content. They had a wonderful time of thought of their own ideas of how to approach the challenge, found ways to solve problems if they couldn't manage it. They tested their ideas and changed strategy when needed showing some great critical thinking.
