Dentists

The children had a very busy two weeks learning all about the dentist and how to look after their teeth. They took on the role of the dentist in the role play area and checked their friends teeth. We continued our focus on maths encouraging children to count up to 10 1:1 which simply means counting one object at a time as they touch it. (Many children count far faster than they move their finger and think they have more objects than they really do) Children also counted 10 from a larger group and identified numerals up to 10, all while they created a lovely smiley mouth picture. The children used a large toothbrush and shaving foam, to represent toothpaste, and learnt how to clean their teeth, brushing right at the back and behind the teeth. The children talked about when to clean their teeth. Group times consisted of different learning games for children to take part in to learn about tooth kind and non tooth kind snacks. The children had a visit from Splodge the dragon who only likes to eat healthy fruits and vegetables. The children had to eat choose a healthy choice food and we learnt if they were fruits or vegetables and how they grew on the farms. Children then fed their healthy choices to Splodge. In the second game children had to choose a tooth out of a bag, if it was a black tooth they had to talk about a bad treat for teeth and if they chose a white one they had to talk about a good snack for teeth, putting all the teeth in a big mouth. In the third game children had to pack a healthy and unhealthy lunch box, putting the corrects foods in the correct boxes and the last game involved the children feeding either teddy or dolly a healthy or unhealthy tooth snack. All the games taught children about the differences in good and bad food choices and when they should eat sugary treats if they do have them.
