Wellbeing Wednesday

This week we had our Wellbeing Wednesday. The children were invited to dress in orange.

 
 
The health message for the children was exercise and the children took part in an obstacle course to promote physical exercise.
 

 
We started off with a little warm up and talked about the effect exercise has on our bodies. We learnt about our heart beating faster, our breath panting and getting warmer.
 
 
We practised climbing on and jumping off logs. Practitioners talked to children about stepping 'on' and jumping 'off' re-enforcing prepositions.
 






 
 
                                                Then we focussed on climbing 'in' and 'out'.





We explored hopping and jumping.
 
 
                                                          We practised kicking a ball.

                                    
                                                         We crawled 'under' the easel.





                                             We practised our catching and throwing skills.


              We also learnt about hitting a ball with a bat, which we will practise again in the future.





We did some careful balancing along the pirate planks.
 
 
                                             Stepped two feet in and two feet out of the tyre.


                            We finished off by climbing 'up' the slide steps and went 'down' the slide.


         The children ran to the finish line and then we talked again about the effect exercise has on our bodies. Children felt their hearts beat faster and their breath was quicker.

During the Easter holidays if we see the sunshine it would be a great opportunity to bring your children down to the park. Bring a ball and practise basic skills such as throwing, catching and kicking. Practise skills such as running, jumping, crawling, hopping, rolling etc. Allow them to run, climb and explore the outdoor environment. It is important for children to develop their physical skills as well as their academic skills and moving in a variety of ways confidently stimulates parts of the brain that help them perform better in certain aspects of their academic development.
After the May Bank Holiday we will be introducing P.E. sessions for our pre-school children to practise these skills ready for school. The 2-3 year olds will be working with their key workers to improve their physical skills.
