Last week the staff from St Marys @ The Park, joined our sister nurseries for training on a wide variety of topics to refresh and develop our knowledge to continue providing a high standard of care and education for the children within our St Marys community.
Staff learnt bout how to identify and support families who may be suffering from honour based abuse, forced marriage and hidden harm, talking about signs to look out for and when and whom to report concerns to.
We learnt about female genital mutilation and how to provide support to prevent this from happening. From 2003 it became an illegal practise in this country and for girls to be taken abroad for the procedure. In June 2015 it also became an offence to protect girls from risk of FGM and can result in a jail sentence of 7 years.
If anyone is concerned about any of the above topics please speak to Amanda as the designated Safeguarding officer for St Marys @ The Park. We can offer support to the families in our care.
We did a refresher session on first aid, looking at signs, symptoms and treatment for Asthma, Heart Attack, Stroke, Epilepsy, Fainting and Choking.
We discussed children's wellbeing and how to support children to make them less anxious when settling into nursery each day.
We reviewed all our policies regarding food hygiene practises.
We had feedback from the latest network meeting, which is attended by senior staff. This gives us updates n current issues within the borough.
It was an action packed evening. Please remember all our policies are available to read and can be found in our cloakroom area.
