Learning in our outdoor environment

We are very lucky at St Marys @ The Park to be in the middle of these beautiful surroundings. We had to take advantage of the recent snowy weather. We took the children out into the park to explore the frost, ice and snow. The children were encouraged to talk about what they could see, how the park has changed and detailed features of the outdoor environment.

Understanding The World

The World

Comments and asks questions about aspects of their familiar world such as the place where they live or the natural world.
Can talk about some things they have observed such as plants, animals, natural and found objects.
Talks about why things happen and how things work.
Developing an understanding of growth, decay and changes over time.
Show care and concern for living things and the environment.

We also supported in developing their language, talking about descriptive words to describe the wintry environment. The children made comments such as:

Cold
Slippy
Melts
Spiky
Snow ball
Crunchy
