Creating on a large scale

At St Marys @ The Park we are great believers in utilising everything possible and making the most out of them. Amanda recently received a large board as part of packaging, she brought it into nursery and the children explored their creativity. Firstly we painted the large board and added some textures to the paint by adding flour, salt, shaving foam and bubble bath. The children used paint brushes and rollers to decorate the board. Many children maintained focus on their painting for long periods of time. Some thought of their own ideas and started using their hands to paint, showing creative thinking. We then decided to enhance the activity further and encouraged children to add collage pieces to the board. Children developed their skills at using glue spreaders and were able to explore shape, space and measure by deciding on which collage pieces they wanted to use and where they would fit, how to adapt them etc.
