Collecting the grass

The field has been cut today so we thought it was a great opportunity to take the children onto the grass to collect some. The children filled boxes and used the little wheel barrow to bring it back to nursery. They problem solved how to get the wheel barrow over the little step at the gate and we used the grass to enhance our garden centre and mud kitchen.

Lunch time club

The lunch time children showed at interest in washing up and wanted to help. Kim explored this with them as an activity, using small sponges and cloths and drying the dishes.

Road Safety

For our wellbeing Wednesday for April, we were teaching the children about road safety. The children talked about road safety at group time, looking at the different stages to cross the road safely. They also looked at and talked about safe places to cross such as zebra crossings and pelican crossings. They then went out in small groups and carried out a practical exercise in crossing the road. Each child received a road safety certificate. Later at story time we talked about wearing seat belts in the car and the children were introduced to some new songs about being safe in the car.

Similarities and Differences

We have been learning about what makes us different and how we are the same recently, children have been embracing this and talking a lot about the things that make them different or things that are the same as their friends.

In the early years this core St Marys Value is all about helping children to develop respect for their own and others’ cultures, whilst exploring similarities and differences. It links to the EYFS areas of People and Communities (Understanding the World) and Making Relationships (Personal, Social and Emotional Development).

Here two of the girls come to tell Amanda that they are all the same because they all have little pig tails in their hair and they hold their pig tails to show her.

Wellbeing Wednesday - Pink

Thank you to all our children who wore pink for pink day, especially to our boys. As part of our St Marys Values it is important to try and break down the stereotypes of what boys and girls are supposed to like or do.

Herb Planting

The children have been helping to plant some herbs to go in our garden centre. We utilised some old wellies. As the herbs grow the children can smell the different scents they give off and we will be using it to scent our playdough in nursery. Children will be encouraged to take care of the herbs, watering them.

Visit to Holly Mount

The children had a trip to Holly Mount. The practised their bowling skills playing 10 pin bowling with all their friends. We visit Holly Mount to devlelop children's understanding of mutual tolerance and respect as part of our St Mary's Values.

mutual respect and tolerance: where we learn to treat others as we want to be treated. How to be part of a community, manage our feelings and behaviour; and form relationships with others.
Naturally we should have an ethos of inclusivity and tolerance in our settings, where views, faiths, cultures and races are valued and where we encourage children to engage with their wider community.
