Building Blocks

BEFORE............
Intent- The cohort data shows that 100% of children are below age expected relations in managing feelings and behavior this actvity was set up to observe if children can tolerate delay when needs are not immediately met, and observe if they can understand wishes may not always be met.

Implementation- Construction area is a popular area, and children are interested in bricks and making marks so this activity was set up with only one of each coloured pen and minimal blocks in various sizes.






















AFTER....

Impact- Managing feelings & behaviour- Begins to accept the needs of others and can take turns and share resources, sometimes with support from others.
-Responds to the feelings and wishes of others
-Can usually tolerate delay when needs are not immediately met, and understands wishes may not always be met. 
Self confidence and self awareness- Welcomes and values praise for what they have done
Making relationships- Interested in others play and starting to join in
-Plays alongside others
-Listening and attention- Listen to others one to one when conversation interests them 
-Speaking- Begining to ask simple questions
-Uses gestures sometimes with limited talk, e.g, reaches towards toy saying, "i have it"
-Uses simple sentences
-Beginning to use word endings
Moving & Handling- Hold pencil between thumb and two fingers, no longer using whole-hand grasp
-Hold pencil near point between first two  fingers and thumb uses it with good control 
-draw lines and circles using gross motor movements
writing- distinguishes between the different marks they make
Shape, space and measure- Begins to use the language of size
Being imaginative- Beginning to make-believe by pretending 
-Build's stoires around toys, e.g. farm animals needing rescue from an arm chair lift
