Jewellery Policy
The
welfare and safety of the children attending St Mary’s Nursery is paramount.
The Management of the nursery feel that the implementation of this policy is required
due to information which has been given to staff when attending training
courses.
Advise
and clarification of our statutory duty in relation to the wearing of jewellery
has been sought from a number of agencies and experts, including;
Environmental
Health
Health
and Safety Officers
Equality
of Human Rights Commission.
There
are a number of items of jewellery which can be dangerous when in a Early Years
Environment. Therefore all items of jewellery shall not be worn by children
attending or staff/students/ visitor working within the nursery. Pins/clips
used to secure headscarves, MUST be worn on the inside of the scarves.
There
are exceptions which the law states are classified as ‘Articles of Faith’ and
NOT jewellery. Our research has shown that these articles do not include;
earings,
nose
studs
tongue
jewellery
other
piercings
necklaces
rings
(excluding wedding bands)
