Planting cress

As part of our topic of growth and new life the children planted some cress seeds. The beautiful weather over the weekend have made it grow in quick time. The children are now going to cut the cress and use it as part of a second activity looking at change. We are going to explore the contents of an egg, then hard boil them and explore the difference. Children are going to mash their own egg up and add cress if they want to, to make their own butty for snack time. This encourages independence. It provides an opportunity to use scissors and develop cutting skills. It promotes muscle development in their wrists for pre-writing skills and encourages children to try new tastes.
