Wellbeing Wednesday
The children dressed in black for October's Wellbeing Wednesday. Our focus for the children was making friends, we did our wake and shake session in groups. We learnt each others names and rolled a ball to each other, encouraging children to say others names and look at the children they were rolling the ball to. We then had a trip to Holly Mount taking our Harvest collection. The children carried their own foods down to the home and we talked about our new special friends we were collecting for, teaching children about British Values. We had our snack as a group encouraging children to give snack cups out to their friends and all sitting together. We also reminded children about sharing, turn taking and friendships throughout the sessions. Our safety message for parents this month was fire safety, this included information about Bonfire safety. Please take extra care if you are going to any bonfire displays over the half term.

Network Meeting
Monday 12th October St Marys @ The Park held a network meeting. The team stayed on after nursery had closed and set up the different areas of the nursery. Other local nurseries and child minders were invited to come and view the nursery to share ideas and good practice. The areas were enhanced as we would typically do so for the children, though not all areas would be so enhanced during normal nursery sessions. St Marys @ The Park feel it is important to share ideas with others to raise the standards of nurseries throughout Blackburn with Darwen as we are all striving to provide the highest standard of education, laying strong foundations to build on children's learning. Other network meetings will be held for St Marys @ The Park to visit in the future.
Harvest Collection
Thank you very much for your kind donations to our Harvest collection. Today the children each carried an item of food down to Holly Mount Residential Home for the Elderly. The children said hello to the residents and put their items in a harvest basket showing community spirit, being kind and giving to others. This is teaching children about British Values, mutual respect and tolerance of others, treating people as we would like to be treated ourselves. These values form part of the ethos of St Marys @ The Park.

Wellbeing Wednesday
September's Wellbeing Wednesday was focused on hand washing. The children were encouraged to discuss hand washing techniques and Roxy modelled the correct way for children. They also learnt about when we should wash our hands. Please continue to support this at home ensuring your children wash their hands before meal times and after going to the toileting, using soap and talk about, washing away the germs, with them. We also sent home some information for families about stopping smoking in line the national Stoptober campaign and the new law that came into force from 1st October 2015 with regard to smoking in cars. To discuss these issues or for any further information please speak to Roxy Bhai, our Oral Health Champion.
