Christmas

We have enhanced the malleable tray with lots of sparkly Christmassy items. Hidden in it is lots of bells that are metal. Children have been exploring force, using big magnets to find the metal bells that are hidden. Children are exploring how many bells they can fit on a magnet, using them as musical instruments and enjoying how they magically 'stick' to the magnet.

Christmas Robins - The children have used their creative skills to make a robin for display. As they were creating their robins, practitioners were talking to them about shapes and labelling different shapes, discussing how they look, eg having sides, corners etc.

Wrapping presents - The children have been wrapping empty boxes pretending they are gifts. This has sparked a lot of interest. Children have had to select pieces of paper big or small enough to fit round their box. They have then been further developing their problem solving skills, looking at how to get the cellotape off the roll, how much to use, where to stick it etc. This kind of activity is great for developing children's mathematical skills in the future, encouraging them to think about problems logically and work out how to solve them. Testing their ideas and changing their strategy as needed.

The children have explored texture and creativity making pictures on sticky back plastic. Children thought of their own ideas to create their picture while talking to practitioners about different textures. Some of the older children decided they wanted to cut smaller pieces for their picture, developing their own ideas.
