Halloween

The children dressed in their spooky outfits for our Halloween fun.

The children were encouraged to carry out mathematical problems with spiders. Depending on their confidence with numbers children were challenged to:

 Count spiders
Select a small number of objects from a group when asked, please give me one, please give me two
Make comparisons between quantities
Talk about more and less
Know that groups of things change in quantity when something is added or taken away
Recite numbers in order to 10
Identify numerals
Count spiders 1:1

We carved pumpkins, learning about natural resources and cutting up real vegetables for children to explore, talking about seeds, pulp and using lots of descriptive words to talk about the pumpkins.

We enhanced the Role Play area into a Witches house and encouraged children to listen to the story of Winnie the Witch and her cat Wilbur. Children could then use resources to explore the story independently and pretend to make their own spells, developing their imaginary play skills.

The children made and decorated their own gingerbread Halloween shapes, focusing on tools that are used for a particular purpose. The children explored different ingredients.

The children created their own potions and observed what happens when then mix vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. They had great fun mixing different ingredients together, changing and adapting their potions independently.

We also carried out some silly games and went trick o' treating around the park. A big thank you to one of our morning mummies who brought in some trick o' treat sweeties for the children to take home.
