Some of the children have been on the field collecting grass to use in our malleable tray. We have also added conkers from our conker hunt for children to explore things from the natural environment, learning about textures and the smells of nature.

All About Me
As part of our topic we have been learning all about similarities and differences. We have been talking about our family units and how different they are from each other. We have been looking at ourselves, comparing our clothes, facial features, likes and interests. The children have made pictures of themselves for display purposes and have beenencouraged to talk about themselves, building their vocabualry. This type of activity supports our St Marys Values:
Mutual Respect and Tolerance
This one comes down to the oldest saying in the book. Treat others as you’d like to be treated too. Encouraging tolerance of all faiths, cultures, races and views, along with an understanding of our differences and similarities.
Understanding the World
People and Communities
Learns that they have similarities and differences that connect them to and distinguish them from others.
Knows some of the things that make them unique and can talk about some of the similarities and differences in relation to friends or family.

Making Chapattis
As part of our All About Me topic we have been making chapattis. We are supporting children in the role play area re enacting their experiences that they see at home in the kitchen.
Expressive Arts and Design
Being Imagination
Notices what adults do, imitating what is observed and then doing it spontaneously when the adult is not there.
Engages in imaginative role-play based on own first hand experiences.
Uses available resources to create props to support role-play.
After making and rolling our chapattis we enjoyed eating them and then the children continued demonstrating what they had learnt using chapatti dough in the dough area.

Box Fun
Isn't it lovely when you can take something as simple as a cardboard box and turn it into an adventure.

Welcome Back
Welcome back and welcome to all our new families joining us this Autumn. We have had an incredibly busy start to the term with lots of children starting accessing the different sessions we have to offer. We now have only very limited afternoon spaces available and no avalibility for mornings or 30 hours.
The curriculum planning for this term focuses on All About Me. The Children will be learning about their bodies, painting self portraits and learning the names of different body parts. Our activities will incorporate the seven areas of learning and will focus on language development and independence. The role play area will be enhanced to reflect family activities, including a birthday party, making chapattis, baby area and pet corner. Children will be encouraged to share and take turns and will build relationships with new friends. We will also be exploring families and differences and similarities between people, developing mutual respect and tolerance.
Parents can help support us with this topic by donating traditional Asain cookware for our home corner so children can role play, copying what they have seen at home.
Can everyone also please bring in a family photo for us to display in the setting as we talk about our family members and who lives in our house. If you would prefer to email your photo, please email them to a.halstead@stmarysblackburn.ac.uk
