Creative Writing

We set up a new creative writing area for a couple of weeks in nursery to encourage children to take part in writing activities in a variety of fun and creative ways. Children were encouraged to 'have a go' and. Some of the activities encouraged children to work on a larger scale which helps develop and strengthen their shoulder muscles. The area was originally designed with boys in mind to promote early writing but we found that the girls had just as much fun too.

Children can develop their shoulder muscles, reaching up high to make marks.

Children had access to both chalks and crayons at the easel.

The unit was covered as it is the perfect height for children doodle as they pass which seems particularly interesting for our 2 year olds.

Children were encouraged to try and draw around items, learning about shapes and enclosing spaces.

Children were provided with the challenge of the maze. They had to use critical thinking as well as pencil control skills to get from one side of the maze to another. Children were also encouraged to talk about the characters they pass on the maze as they draw.

Children creatively draw inside the box, feeling secure in their own little space.

Children were provided to draw pictures from under the table, developing arm strength and trying something new.
