Dear Parents,
You may be aware of a recent news report about an Early Years
Practitioner who has been abusing children within a nursery setting.
We would like to reassure you of the safeguarding practices
within St Mary’s Nurseries.
There is a
stringent recruitment procedure which includes;
- an
application form including information on
past employment, qualifications and criminal records
- during
interviews the Safeguarding Procedures are explained in detail to deter any
applicant who
may be a risk to children
- Evidence
of qualifications are sought
- DBS check
- List 99
check (an extra suitability check for education establishments)
- two
references from other professionals
Tracy and Sarah have
been trained by the Local Safeguarding Children Board on ‘Safer Recruitment’
procedures.
Once a new employee has been appointed the following is
carried out;
-
Intense induction – highlighting Safeguarding
policies and procedure (whistle blowing)
-
A weekly review meeting to discuss progress,
issues, concerns etc
-
A competency checklist carried out by senior
staff
-
Close supervision until management feel they are
competent to be alone with the children
Other safeguarding measure in place at St Mary’s
-
Open plan play room
-
Regular supervision meetings with all staff
-
On going safeguarding training for all staff
-
Clear procedures for Allegations of professional
abuse
-
Tracy, Sarah and Susan are trained in Managing Allegations of
Professional Abuse
If any parent has concerns/worries about this issue please
speak to Sarah Magee who is the
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Regards
Sarah
