Tomorrow, Tuesday 5th March is Pancake day. The children have been whisking up some pancake batter and will be sampling fruity pancakes for snack, talking about their likes and dislikes. This encourages children to be able to mmake their own choices and decissions and talk about them, promoting democracy, one of our St Marys Values. Photos of our day will be shared on the blog at a later date.
Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins).
Amanda will be giving up all snacks, such as chocolate, biscuits, cake etc and Susan is giving up crisps.
